Pumps have been playing a crucial role in the plumbing industry for many years even before the introduction of electricity. There are many different sizes of pumps all used for various tasks. It could be for the circulation of hot water from a plant room around a building to deliver a reliable source of consistent hot water to hotel rooms. Common brands used for hot water reticulation are Grundfos, Hyjet, Aline, Kwikflow, Reefe, Onga and Davey. You will also find that pumps play a big role in our infrastructure across Adelaide and the Adelaide Hills to transfer waste/sewerage which eventually finds its way out to Bolivar Waste Treatment Plant in the states north. Multi Storey Apartments and Offices in the city have numerous Fire Jacking Pumps installed. The Role of a Fire Jacking Pump is to ensure that during a fire alarm being sounded these pumps will assist in the delivery of continual pressurised water to whichever level of the building is requesting the water via a hydrant, hose reel or sprinkler.
What can go wrong with a pump?
Depending on the exact role of the pump installed or pumps some may work 24 hours and 7 days of the week and others may work every now and again. With the evolving technology surrounding pumping system we are able program a pump dependant upon its peak periods. It is in our experience the following are common faults with pumps:
New homes and property renovations
It is a requirement by the South Australian Government that any new home or significant property renovation have a minimum of a 1000L rainwater tank installed. This rainwater is then required to be plumbed into either a toilet, laundry tap or water heater for the house. In order to get the rainwater to these outlets a pump is used. These pumps such as Davey, Hyjet, Bianco or Onga have mains pressure auto changeover mechanisms installed. The advantage of the mains pressure auto changeover device is to ensure that in the event of a rainwater tank being emptied (typically in summer across Adelaide) there will still be water to supply to the fixtures via the potable water supply connected to the pumping station and into the building. Depending on the model you have installed there may be a red light which will emit during a fault alerting to you the need for a pump repair expert in Adelaide. During normal operation a green light will always stay visible letting you know the pump has power and when it is pumping the water a orange light will show you the pump is in normal operational mode.
Through regular inspections, testing and data tracking we help many businesses avoid catastrophic failure and major down times. Majority of our commercial and industrial pumps are not off the shelf units and some even need to transporting from overseas. Programmed maintenance is the key and what we work closely with many of our clients to enable hassle free business operations.
