The beginings of a brand new bathroom renovation in Prospect, SA 5082.
Performing any type of renovation can be quite the daunting experience regardless of the scale that is involved, it can be just a minor face lift or as seen in the picture above a full scale bathroom renovation where the whole internal of the bathroom is demolished and everything is removed for new plumbing pipes to be installed.

In the picture above you can see that the walls of the bathroom are brick, this home was built back in the early 1900's like most of the homes throughout Prospect, majority of the homes were constructed from solid brick which is a lot different to today's methods of construction where timber framing with a gyprock internal lining is much more common.

Installing new copper hot and cold pipes into a solid brick bathroom can be a challenge and very labour intensive.  To enable me to get this job done professionally and quickly with minimal mess I have invested in a dustless wall chasing machine as shown in the images below.  Purchasing a piece of kit like this puts a decent dent in your back pocket, BUT the results speak for themselves, its truly amazing.  The Ramset wall chaser has a variety of options to choose from such as variable depth and width adjustments and the vacuum which can be used for either wet or dry applications and periodically the filters vibrate themself clean.  Using this piece of machinery sure does help with the overall process involved with installing new copper hot and cold pipes into a bathroom renovation.

Once the chasing has been performed with the Ramset wall chaser its very easy to remove the pieces of brick wall where the new pipes will be installed, they just about fall out, leaving minimal jack hammering work to be performed, which in turn minimises the structural damage to the house by having less vibration impact to the structure which is a huge bonus as most of these properties are in a delicate state and the less impact through jack hammering its structure the better.

Once the wall chases are performed and ready for installation of the new hot and cold copper pipes the procedure is fairly straight forward using Viega Pro Press Technology, this involves using copper fittings (see image below) which actually get crimped together using the Viega Pro Press Gun (see image below).  These fittings are slightly more expensive BUT the installation procedure is so simple and nearly 100% guaranteed leak free, gone are the days of using the oxy and acetylene welding torch and the risk of water leaks and naked flames with potential for fires and hot work permits.

Later in the week I was contacted by a past customer who I had tested a backflow valve for at Marion SA 5043, on Marion Road a few months ago he is now renovating an apartment down at Glenelg (The BAY), just off of Brighton Road near the SANFL Glenelg Tigers home ground oval.  The old kitchen in place was the original design supplied when the apartment was first built probably back in 1970.  The hot and cold taps like many of these apartments from this era had the taps located above the sink with a spout in the middle over the sink.

These days when most people do a kitchen renovation they opt to have the hot and cold points for the new taps lowered below the sink height and have a nice new mixer style tap installed (as seen below), this is where my Ramset Wall Chaser comes into action again, lowering these copper pipes for this alteration is made very simple and clean when using the right equipment which always makes my customers happy.

In most cases the the 50mm PVC/Galv waste pipe for the kitchen sink also needs adjustment in the way of lowering it by approximately 300mm to accommodate the new double sink and the correct plumbing which goes with this during the second fix process such as a double bowl connector and combination s and p trap to apply with South Australian Plumbing Codes AS3500.

So as you can see by this weeks blog Mayfair Plumbing and Gasfitting are completely set-up to cater for all your Bathroom and Kitchen Renovations in Adelaide, call us today on 0429 361 819 or contact us via: http://www.pinterest.com/masterplumer/plumbing-renovations-adelaide/

We loved using our Viega tool and viega copper fittings for most water installations when Dad and I were working both in commercial and residential fit outs. The only thing was if the battery died halfway through crimping a fitting.
As for that Ramset Wall Chaser, that is FREAKING awesome. I know it's probably cost you a bit but hopefully it will pay for itself in the long rung. Great post Aaron. You make me want to go back on the tools. :)

I learn so much from your posts Aaron. The Builder has another Ramset tool and to be honest I have no idea what it is either. He doesn't write such informative posts to let me know :) Tool like this while a big initial investment, do tend to pay for themselves in the long run.

I don't know, whether it is the perfect time to give facelifts to kitchen and bathroom, but I can that with proper precautions one can make the final result successful and effective as it is supposed to be. Renewing cabinets, upgrading countertops and replacing the faucet are the 3 fundamental steps for a kitchen facelift. It can also be implemented while facelifting a bathroom. But in addition to that we have to check the plumbing section of the bathroom, because a small ignorance in plumbing may lead to night-terror result in near future.
